Scope and Purpose

Approved March 31, 2004

Scope. This Standard applies to the preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) for chemicals and materials used under occupational conditions. With the addition of certain data elements, this Standard is also acceptable for international use.

Requirements change. It is the responsibility of the MSDS preparer to be aware of current HCS requirements.

Purpose. The purpose of this Standard is to provide a consistent format for an MSDS that will allow inclusion of information to comply with applicable laws.
