This British Standard is the official English language version of EN 10204:2004. It supersedes BS EN 10204:1991 which is withdrawn. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee ISE/5, Technical delivery conditions, classification and designation of steels, which has the responsibility to:

This European Standard was approved by CEN on 8 August 2004. CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this European Standard the status of a national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on application to the Central Secretariat or to any CEN member.


This European Standard exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Central Secretariat has the same status as the official versions.

Foreword
This document (EN 10204:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee ECISS/TC 9 "Technical conditions of delivery and quality control", the secretariat of which is held by IBN.


This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2005, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by April 2005. This document supersedes EN 10204:1991. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directives 97/23/EC. For relationship with EU Directive 97/23/EC, see informative Annex ZA, which is an integral part of this document. The main changes are:


new definitions: "manufacturer" , "intermediary", "product specification"; reduction of the number of inspection documents: type 2.3 of the previous edition has been deleted; type 3.1 replaces type 3.1.B of the previous edition; type 3.2 replaces types 3.1.A, 3.1. C and the inspection report 3.2 of the previous edition.


According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.


Scope
1.1 this document specifies the different types of inspection documents supplied to the purchaser, in accordance with the requirements of the order, for the delivery of all metallic products e.g. plates, sheets, bars, forgings, castings, whatever their method of production.

1.2 this document may also apply to non-metallic products.


1.3 this document is used in conjunction with the product specifications which specify the technical delivery conditions of the products.


note 1 the list of information that may be included in the inspection documents can be found in appropriate documents, e.g. en 10168 for steel. note 2 annex a gives a summary of the different inspection documents.
