API International News
IHS publishes news about API standards activities in the following sectors:
Energy
Oil & Gas

API began creating Standards, Recommended Practices, and standards in 1924. Today, API now maintains some 500 standards covering all segments of the oil and gas industry. API standards are widely accepted as the global authority for oil and gas standards.

API standards address several key aspects of the oil and gas industry, including exploration and production, refining, fire protection and safety, petroleum measurement and marine transportation. These documents reference offshore production, drilling, structural pipe, pipeline, health and environmental issues, valves, storage tanks, etc.

Subscribers to IHS standards can quickly navigate active documents written, published, and copyrighted by API. In addition subscribers can review document summary, abstract/scope, history and references by using:

API Collections include:

Other API Packages include:

  • API Complete - The entire set of API standards, available on a subscription basis.
  • API Inspector Certification Programs - Designed for inspectors at petroleum, petrochemical and chemical industry facilities, these programs address self-regulation, health and safety, inspection capabilities, management control and environmental performance.

    • Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification Program - API 510
Certification for inspecting refining and petrochemical pressure vessels conforming to API Standard 510 - Pressure Vessel Inspection Code: Maintenance, Inspection, Rating, Repair and Alteration.
    • Process Piping Inspector Certification Program - API 570
Based on AIP Standard 570 - Piping Inspection Code: Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Rerating of In-Service Piping Systems, this program promotes safety and maintaining optimal performance through the inspection of process piping systems.
    • Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector Certification Program - API 653
Designed to certify inspectors based on API Standard 653 - Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Reconstruction.

  • API Historical: Exploration & Production (1986 Forward) – Exploration and production documents that went historical beginning in 1986 to the present date are included in this collection. Publications in this collection are driven by the year they became historical, not by the publication date of the document.
  • Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards - Updated and revised periodically, this publication contains information about tank calibration, tank gauging, tank provers, metering, metering assemblies, temperature and density determination, sampling, sediment and water, calculation of petroleum quantities, natural gas applications, liquefied petroleum gas measurement, measurement of hydrocarbon fluids and more.
  • API Select - An IHS-only product that collects the top 300 standards used by API standards subscribers. API select is a unique collection of API Publications that includes Manual of Petroleum Measurement standards, specifications, recommended practices, bulletins, and standards used predominately within the petrochemical industry.
  • API Research Reports American Petroleum Institute - The API Research Reports section contains active exploration and product Research Reports relating to various petrochemical research projects sponsored by API. The product contains Reports produced since the late 1970’s.
  • API Custom Collection - This service allows customers to select and subscribe to specific API standards and documents with updates.
