Developing new products geared toward energy conservation, energy efficiency, green energy and other energy-saving products are the keys to the future. The ASME Codes and Standards collection, Renewable/Alternative Energy, contains the performance test codes:

Note that standard PTC 42 is no longer an American National Standard or an ASME-approved standard as of January 8, 2008. It is appropriate for historical reference of ASME wind energy and wind power standards only.

ASME  provides determination of performance of all sizes of hydraulic turbines and pump-turbines operating with water in either the turbine or pump mode in PTC 18. This Code applies to all sizes and types of hydraulic turbines or pump-turbines. It defines methods for ascertaining performance by measuring flow rate (discharge), head, and power, from which efficiency may be determined. Procedures for field performance and acceptance testing of hydraulic turbines and pump-turbines operating with water in either the turbine or pump mode are addressed in this code. ASME also included requirements pretest arrangements, types of instrumentation, methods of measurement, testing procedures, methods of calculation, and contents of test reports.
ASME Performance Test Code 29 provides the rules and procedures for the performance testing of hydraulic turbine speed governors. It is applicable to constant speed hydraulic turbines including electronic-hydraulic and mechanical-hydraulic speed governors. PTC 29 specifies procedures for conducting tests to determine performance characteristics of hydraulic turbine speed governors including droop, deadband and deadtime, stability index, step response, gain, and setpoint adjustment.

ASME PTC 50 provides test procedures and definitions for the performance characterization of fuel cell power systems, which convert input fuel and oxidizer into output electrical and thermal energy, including solar energy. In this code, ASME provides test procedures, methods and definitions for the performance characterization of fuel cell power systems.

ASME PTC 50 also applies to the performance of overall fuel cell power systems. The Code addresses combined heat and power systems, that is, the generation of electricity and usable heat at specific thermal conditions, including solar power. It does not address the performance of specific subsystems nor does it apply to energy storage systems, such as regenerative fuel cells or batteries. It also does not address emissions, reliability, safety issues, or endurance.

In a rapidly growing and changing field such as alternative and renewable energy, the use of ASME engineering codes and standards allows for easy collaboration and integration with other companies and organizations. The development of sustainable energy methods is currently a growing industry.  ASME standards are available for purchase through IHS as an online subscription or individual documents.

To assure that you have the right level of access to meet copyright restrictions and assure availability within your company, IHS customer service representatives will assist in evaluation of your standards needs. Complete the form on this page to speak with a customer service representative regarding collection pricing. Individual document and online subscription purchasing are both described below.

Online Access - Subscribers get secure online access to search, view, bookmark, track, and print documents according to the license agreement. Online documents are updated daily. Multiple users can share a single license. You also get access to IHS Standards bibliographic data – more than 1 Million documents.

Individual Documents - IHS sells individual documents through the IHS Standards Store in electronic or hardcopy formats. Statistics show that 1 out of every 5 people who purchase individual documents would benefit from an online subscription.  You should consider a collection over individual document purchases if your company buys more than $3,000 in standards per year.
