This collection of 35 codes and standards from ASME provides critical information regarding cranes, lifting equipment, forklift, hoists, and material placement systems. The standards in this collection cover equipment used in hoisting for multiple industries including construction, transportation, marine and air operations, and material handling equipment and warehousing. The standards in this collection provide safety information, design and construction guidance, and performance requirements.

ASME covers topics such as configurations of roller load chains for overhead hoists; general purpose portable jacks; lift trucks; tower cranes commonly used on construction sites; permanently mounted portal, tower, and pedestal cranes; derricks; drum hoists mounted on a foundation; and floating cranes in the standards offered in this collection. This ASME crane and hoist collection includes safety standards for hooks used with cableways, cranes, derricks, hoists, hooks, jacks, and slings; monorail systems where load-carrying members travel on the lower flange of a runaway track section, single monorail track, crane bridge girder, or jib boom; overhead hoists; and personnel lifting platforms. The collection also includes ASME standards related to the design, construction, and installation of cranes and hoists.

Two standards cover cranes and hoists used in nuclear facilities:

  • NOG-1  Rules for Construction of Overhead and Gantry Cranes (Top Running Bridge, Multiple Girder) - This Standard provides requirements for electric overhead and gantry multiple girder cranes with top running bridge and trolley at nuclear facilities and components of cranes at nuclear facilities.
  • NUM-1  Rules for Construction of Cranes, Monorails and Hoists (With Bridge or Trolley or Hoist of the Underhung Type) - This Standard provides requirements for underhung cranes, traveling wall cranes, jib cranes, monorail systems, overhead hoists, and hoists with integral trolleys used in nuclear facilities.

Engineers and other technical professionals requiring the information contained in this ASME codes and standards collection may purchase them in hardcopy, electronic format, or as an online subscription. Complete the form on this page to speak with a customer service representative regarding collection pricing. Individual document and online subscription purchasing are both described below.
