Skiing Trauma and Safety: Sixteenth Volume

Johnson RJ

This publication, Skiing Trauma and Safety: Sixteenth Volume, contains papers presented at the symposium of the same name held in April, 2005. This publication is sponsored by the ASTM International Committee F27 on Snow Skiing in cooperation with the International Society of Skiing Safety.

These papers provide information intended to improve the sport of skiing and associated activities by reducing the risk of injury, produce better and more enjoyable means of participating in all these winter snow sports activities, and, when necessary, provide appropriate treatment for injured participants. Following the performance of various research efforts and the promulgation of standards, the occurrence of ski trauma has been reduced. Equipment design, injury treatment techniques, and the dissemination and teaching of information related to injury are key factors in this reduction.

Papers presented in this STP address skiers, skiboarders, snowboarders, and telemarkers. Topics include

  • age factors related to injuries
  • athletic injuries
  • skiing trauma
