This STP contains 34 papers presented at the Bearing Steel Technology symposium in May of 2001. The symposium was sponsored by ASTM International Committee A1 on Steel, Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys and its Subcommittee A1.28 on Bearing Steels.
The broad goal of the symposium, and this book, was, and is to bring clarity into what is important in respect of rolling bearing steel technologies and the relevant disciplines. The presenters and authors of the papers in this collection worked or are associated with the areas of rolling bearing producers, bearing steel producers, university and R&D institutes, and rolling bearing users.
The papers in this publication are grouped under nine headings:
- Bearing Steel Process Developments
- Steel Technology and Bearing Component Manufacture
- Developments in Bearing Steel Quality Assessment and Correlation's with Bearing Life
- Developments in Bearing Service Life Testing
- Bearing Metallurgy Developments for Improved Service Life
- Developments in High Alloy Steel for Improved High Temperature and Enhanced Corrosion
- Resistance Properties
- Microstructural Changes and its Relationships with Bearing Life and Life Time Predictions
- Material Factors in Bearing Life Calculations
- Topics such as
- bearing steel
- nonmetallic inclusion
