This STP contains papers presented at the Symposium on Pesticide Formulations and Application Systems: Surviving the Change in the Agrochemical Industry that was held in Norfolk, Virginia on 15-16 Oct. 2002. The Symposium was sponsored by ASTM Committee E35 on Pesticides and Alternative Control Agents.
The work of several authors from private industry, government, and academia is presented here in an overview of recent pesticide technology. The symposium featured invited speakers who provided the audience with a broad view of where the industry may be headed now that patent protection has been lost for many pesticides. Spray adjuvant and inert producers must be more creative in the products they offer.
The papers presented in this STP are organized in the same categories as the conference itself:
- Formulation Ingredients
- Formulation of Pesticides for Enhanced Biological Efficacy
- Application and Delivery Systems
- Regulatory and Environmental Concerns
Papers included in this STP showcase new adjuvant formulations and new inert chemistries, new techniques used by formulators for adding value and improving performance of products, delivery techniques being investigated to reduce input costs for growers, and environmental issues related to agrochemical and adjuvant formulation. Specific topics covered by papers in this collection include:
- aqueous emulsion
- dilute formulation
- fungicide
- crop oil concentrate
- potassium phosphate
- surfactant,
- dynamic interfacial tension (DIT)
- alkyl ether citrate
- weed control
- phenoxy herbicides
- organosilicone
- glyphosate
- diammonium sulfate
- spray cloud interception
- capture efficiency
- particle size distribution
- particle sphericity
- spray drift,
- rain washoff
- solar degradation
- Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
- Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 (FQPA)
To remain competitive in the changing world of agriculture, professionals need to be knowledgeable of the research and development occurring in the field. This STP provides detailed background information for researchers and product developers in the area of pesticides and adjuvants.
