Roofing Research and Standards Development: 5th Volume
Wallace TJ
ASTM International Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing sponsored the Symposium on Roofing Research and Standards Development in December of 2003. This STP contains the proceedings of that symposium.
Important factors in the roofing industry include characterization of durability, wind resistance, fire resistance, and impact on building energy consumption. The symposium papers assembled in these current Proceedings directly target these four factors. They are organized in general into three groups - uplift & fire, energy conservation, and durability. Five papers address durability and material characterization, two focus on wind resistance, two apply to energy consumption, and one centers on fire resistance.
Examples of specific topics included in this STP are
- mathematical model addressing thermal loads for accelerated aging
- service tests for roofing membranes
- pullout resistance of roofing fasteners
- uplift resistance of asphalt shingles
- fire tests for non-melting plastic roof light Materials
- thermal resistance testing
- effect of reflective roof coatings
- glass transition temperatures
- modified bitumen membrane assemblies
- durability and cold temperature performance
This STP provides useful information to engineers and researchers developing and manufacturing products for use in the roofing industry as well as technical professionals specifying materials for use in construction.
