GOST - Gosudarstvennye Standarty State Standard

Gosstandart of Russia (GOST) standards cover over 20 industries including Petroleum, Chemical, Mining & Mineral Resources, Power & Electrical Equipment, and Oil & Gas products. Originally chartered under the USSR, GOST was responsible for the development and implementation of the State policy in the field of standardization. This body of standards has been adopted by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and is administered by the Euro-Asian Council of Standardization, Metrology, and Certification (EASC).

In 1995, the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Standardization and Metrology established Interstandard, a consulting and innovation firm in the field of international standardization and certification. Interstandard provides the officially recognized translation of the documents of GOST into English using specially developed terminological dictionaries for standardization. IHS provides worldwide access to these standards.

EASC continues the international standards work started under the USSR and collaborates with several international standards bodies including ISO, the International Electrotechnical commission (IEC), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).The GOST collection of standards cover general and technical specifications as well as safety requirements for a variety of items and industries. The GOST standards are useful to businesses performing work in Russia or any of the other CIS countries. These standards are also useful to suppliers, vendors, and consultants to companies doing business in Commonwealth countries.
