Foreword and Acknowledgment:
The research reported herein was sponsored by a grant to
the University of California at Los Angeles from the American
Petroleum Institute,"Continuing Studies on Cyclic Loading Effects in
Foundation Soils for Offshore Structures", 1977. This report is the
thesis of L. Fernando Valenzuela for the degree of Master of Science
in Engineering.
Another research project was also developed under this grant
by Kenneth L. Lee and Francis Dumas, which led to Dumas' Master's thesis.
A report on Dumas' work is presented elsewhere.
The support of the American Petroleum Institute to both
these projects is gratefully acknowledged.
