Scope and field of application

This International Standard specifies safety signs for use in the field of fire protection and fire-fighting. Its field of application extends, as widely as possible, to all situations in which it is necessary, or desirable, to indicate publicly the location and/or the nature of

a) means of giving warning of fire and manual controls;

b) means of escape from fire;

c) means of fire-fighting;

d) means of preventing fire spreading;

e) areas or materials of special fire risk.

This International Standard does not apply to graphical symbols used on Plans or maps, which are covered by ISO 6790.
