Title
Cyclic Deformations of Offshore Structures on Clay

Publication Date:

Scope:
2. Scope
The objective of this research was to develop a procedure to predict
both horizontal and vertical deformations of foundations subjected to
cyclic loads. The procedure makes use of a theory and computer programs
developed to calculate earthquake permanent deformations in earth dams.
A new computer program was developed to take in consideration some
differences between earthquake and cyclic laoding. This new program was
then applied to two different sets of tests done to simulate cyclic
loading of offshore structures on clay soils. The tests were choosen
such that they would allow to check the program for both types of
doundation failure: excessive settlement or horizontal sliding. General
conclusions concerning the use of the new program are presented in Part
VI of this thesis.
