Field Tests of Small-Scale Pile Segments in a Soft Clay Deposit under Repeated Axial Loading
American Petroleum Institute
Publication Date:
Jan 15, 1980
Scope:
PREFACE
In June 1977, a research proposal entitled, "In-situ Axial Testing of
Instrumented Model-Pile Segments," was accepted and funded by the
American Petroleum Institute. This project was the third in a series
of three research projects sponsored by the A.P.I. The research was
entitled, "The Study of Piles under Various Axial Loadings." Work was
begun on the project in September 1977, and the experimental work was
completed in February 1979. The project was begun under the
supervision of Professor Hudson Matlock; Dr. Lymon C. Reese took over
supervision responsibility after Professor Matlock left the University
of Texas in December 1977.
The authors wish to thank the American Petroleum Institute
Coordinating Committee, with special thanks to Mr. Jack Sybert,
Chairman, for their help and interest. The authors also wish to thank
Dr. Roy E. Olson for his review of the report.
This project could not be possible were it not for the efforts of
Bogard and Matlock, who developed the majority of the techniques and
equipment used in this project. Their developments served as the basis
for all work performed in this project, and the authors gratefully
acknowledge their contributions.
