Scope:
This manual is a revision of HS-40 entitled "Maintenance of Automotive Engine Cooling Systems," which has served a useful purpose for many years, but which has become outdated as the result of progress and improved designs, and of related chaning maintenance practices and procedures.
The material covers the description, function, and maintenance of typical light and heavy duty vehicle engine liquid-cooling systems, and is intended to be the most up-to-date and useful manual applicable to the maintenance of engine-cooling systems.
The manual will serve as a useful reference for schools, vocational and trade institutes, ect. and as a primer for individuals entering the cooling system design, test and maintenance areas. This document is not intended to provide technical in-depth coverage of cooling system componetry, nor is it intended to be a mechanic's handbook of the last maintenance procedures and techniques.
