SNZ NZS 4223.1: Glazing in buildings Part 1: Glass selection and glazing

The NZS 4223 set of Standards provides procedures for glass selection and glazing in buildings, subject to wind, dead, live and snow actions, human impact, and special applications such as overhead glazing, balustrades and glass assemblies.

Glass design is based on ultimate and serviceability limit states.

NZS 4223 does not cover the following:

(a) Glazing in lift cars, refer to NZS 4332 (for guidance, see Appendix A);

(b) Furniture glass, cabinet glass, vanities, glass basins, splashbacks, refrigeration units, internal glass ?tments and internal wall mirrors not speci?cally covered by NZS 4223.3;

(c) Buildings and structures with no public access and intended as non-habitable building structures for horticultural or agricultural use;

(d) Restoration and or repairs to existing decorated glass;

(e) Glazing applications which might fail due to stresses other than tensile stresses, such as glass ?oors which are subject to shear stresses;

(f) Plastic glazing materials other than safety glazing materials de?ned in NZS 4223.3;

(g) The construction and installation of windows, (refer to NZS 3504, NZS 3619, and NZS 4232.2).
