GME GME 60258: Accelerated Ageing Test for Elastomers

Publication Date: Jul 9, 2009
SDO: GME: General Motors Europe
 DOD Adopted   ANSI Approved Approved

The object of this test method is to determine the resistance of elastomers to ageing, by the measurement of properties of the elastomer before and after accelerated ageing. Whilst the use of an accelerated ageing test allows certain conclusions to be made, it should be noted that it will not necessarily agree with the results of natural ageing. In order to estimate the resistance to ageing of elastomers, one or more of the following properties shall be determined before and after the ageing test, and compared.

Hardness to GME 60252 or GME 60256 (preferred).

Tensile strength, and/or elongation at break, to GME 60257.

Such other properties as may be specified on the relevant engineering drawing or material specification.

The resistance to ozone and light ageing are not included in this test method.
