Title
Utilization of a Reliability-Based API RP2A Format on a Platform Design

American Petroleum Institute

Publication Date:
Nov 1, 1982

Scope:

1.4 Report Scope

Chapter Two presents the detailed summary of Platform A checking by both current RP2A and the proposed LRFD format. A brief platform description is given in Section 2.1 while Section 2.2 summarizes the Petro-Marine Engineering results and efforts. Section 2.3 gives the author's review of the comparisons and some further details for members (2.3.1), tubular joints (2.3.2) and foundations (2.3.3). In each case, any resizing with either format is discussed. Chapter Three reviews the calculation of safety indices for both Platform A components and the general problem of balancing component reliabilities over the potential range of application.

Chapter Four briefly discusses recent additions to the data base and the possible areas which may contribute more information in the near term. System reliability is discussed in Chapter Five, while the range of mini-committee activities including earthquake, dynamics, etc. are each discussed in Chapter Six.

A review to date of RP2A-LRFD is presented in Chapter Seven, along with PME's general experiences in implementing the LRFD checks and proposed future platform comparisons. Chapter Eight provides some conclusions.

Appendix A contains the current version of a tentative LRFD--RP2A. This will be updated in any subsequent project reports. The first attempt at a commentary organization, which will also be made available to designers, is given in Appendix B. A detailed description of the PME output for Platform A is given in Appendix C.
