The
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) began work on IEEE P11073-10202 - Standard for Health Informatics - Point-of-Care Medical Device Communication - Domain Information Model (DIM) - XML Schema Format.
The proposed standard will enable or facilitate the automated processing of medical information by translating the presently used Medical Device Data Language (MDDL) - DIM, International Organization for Standardization (ISO)/IEEE 11073-10201 to eXtensible Markup Language (XML) schema format.
A range of automation tools exist for XML-based formats and this standard is designed to increase the flexibility and usability of medical information devices, according to the IEEE.
