EU-China Standards Information Platform Launched
October 23, 2009 // Published as a news service by IHS
The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) announced the official launch of the new EU-China Standards Information Platform, a project funded by the European Union (EU), on Oct. 16.
The new web-based portal aims to provide valuable information regarding relevant regulatory regime, standards and standardization systems in Europe and China, thereby facilitating trade between the two regions.
Businesses will have free access to this powerful search engine to easily find the standard references needed for their products, using searches either in English or Chinese.
CEN said this portal should have considerable added value for European industry in that searches for Chinese standards list not only national standards (voluntary and mandatory), but also relevant industry standards. Normally, such industry standards are more difficult to obtain for foreign companies wanting to do business with China.
The platform currently includes information on four industry sectors:
- Electrical appliances
- Machinery
- Medical devices
- Environmental protection
The portal will add information on other sectors once the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) and the European standards organizations CEN, European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) take over the platform, with the support of the European Commission (EC) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
The platform was designed by the Sustainable Development Association, with support from the EC and EFTA.
