In recognition of the role of standards and conformity assessment activities in support of the biotechnology industry and its trade initiatives, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will convene a biotechnology standards strategy meeting on Jan. 10, 2008 in Washington, D.C.
The meeting is being held in advance of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Council Standard Committee on Strategies meeting on Jan. 21-22, 2008, where committee members are expected to begin discussions on international standards development activities in the biotechnology field.
As the U.S. member body to ISO and coordinator of the U.S. voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment system, ANSI invited biotechnology and standardization policy experts from the public and private sectors to participate in the Jan. 10 meeting.
By offering their input and expertise, attendees will help ensure effective U.S. leadership of and participation in the ISO biotechnology initiative and any related international standardization activities, according to ANSI.
Meeting attendance is by invitation only; interested parties are welcome to contact Steven Cornish at scornish@ansi.org for additional information or to express interest in attending.
