A recent gathering of delegates at the U.S.-China Symposium on Active Industry Participation in Standardization was a chance for U.S. and Chinese representatives from industry, government, trade associations and technical institutes to engage in meaningful dialogue on the subject of industry participation and leadership in standardization, according to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Jointly organized by ANSI and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), the symposium was a significant priority for stakeholders in both countries as a key component of economic trade and development, ANSI said.
Through a series of panel discussions and presentations, U.S. speakers shared their experiences in various standards-setting models, including formal national and international standardization processes, as well as consortia activities.
Chinese representatives from Haier Group and Shenzhen Oceanpower offered case study presentations on international and national standardization activities.
Zhang Lin, SAC's director general for international cooperation, discussed the group's initiatives to encourage greater Chinese industry participation in standardization and the use of relevant international and advanced foreign national standards.
The symposium was seen as a foundational event upon which ANSI hopes to build future industry sector-specific dialogue and cooperation between the U.S. and China, ANSI said.
