Providing users with an assurance of quality and ensuring the safe handling, transport and storage of fire extinguishing agents are the purposes of ASTM D 7327 - Specification for HFC Blend B (CH2FCF3, CHF2CF3 and CO2).
Mark L. Robin, vice chair of Committee D26 and technical services consultant, DuPont Fluoroproducts, said that ASTM D 7327 will be used in the design of fire suppression systems for the protection of computer rooms, electronic data processing facilities, military facilities, vehicles and museums.
Primary users of the standard will be the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), which turned to the use of ASTM specifications in lieu of older military standards, as well as architects and engineers involved in the design and specification of suppression systems.
Robin said that the subcommittee is seeking developers of other types of suppression systems such as aerosol type fire extinguishers to help develop the standard.
The standard was developed by Subcommittee D26.09 on Fire Extinguishing Agents, which is part of ASTM International Committee D26 on Halogenated Organic Solvents and Fire Extinguishing Agents.
