ASTM International is forming Subcommittee D07.08 on Forests to assist in the development of a proposed new guide for forest management systems.
The purpose of the subcommittee, under the jurisdiction of ASTM International Committee D07 on Wood, is to promote knowledge, stimulate research and develop standards pertaining specifically to forests.
Industry experts requested that Committee D07 form the new subcommittee to begin the development of standards, said ASTM International.
The subcommittee's first proposed standard, Guide for Forest Management Systems and Their Application to Structural Wood Products, will address aspects of a well-managed forest management program.
The proposed standard will use existing criteria from the Center for International Forestry Research, the Food and Agricultural Association of the United Nations and other forestry associations.
Subcommittee D07.08 invites interested parties including experts from the U.S. Forestry Service, academia and industry to participate in the development of the proposed new guide and in future standard development.
