The Standards Institution of Israel (SII) in Tel Aviv will host an international workshop on the safety of water supply systems, Oct. 29 - Nov. 1, 2007.

Underscored by recent large-scale disasters, the intent of the meeting is to establish an international workshop agreement (IWA) that will provide a framework for water security fundamentals, as well as address technologies, products and processes for managing a water security event.

Experts said an IWA allows for a faster response to time-sensitive needs than a traditional standard because it does not rely on customary technical committee structures for approval.

The IWA will be published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) with the possibility of further review and evolution into an ISO standard.

The workshop will evaluate existing national standards and other relevant documents for applicability and integration into the IWA. Participants are invited to submit existing relevant documents for consideration in advance of the meeting. Participation is open to individuals and organizations involved in water security and management, as well as other interested parties.
