AWWA Releases Wastewater Rate Survey, Climate Change Document
July 7, 2009 // Published as a news service by IHS
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) published the "2008 Water and Wastewater Rate Survey" and "Climate Change and Water: International Perspectives on Mitigation and Adaptation."
The water and wastewater rate survey is a utility rate reference containing information for 308 water and wastewater utilities from all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
The survey includes data from utilities that serve from 1,000 to 9 million customers. The information was gathered in the third and fourth quarters of 2008 to provide data on rates as of July 1, 2008.
It is intended to help utilities determine if their rate structure is meeting revenue goals; how rate structure compares with other utilities in their geographic region; how rates compare with other similar-size utilities; and current trends in utility rate-setting.
The companion interactive CD-ROM, said AWWA, allows users to perform data sorts, including analysis of data by geographic region, state, system size, rate structure, system ownership and rates charged.
The climate change and water document presents information on how utilities can respond to global warming, according to AWWA.
This compendium of scientific papers written by international climate change experts addresses global warming and the dramatic effect it will have on water supply planning as utilities cope with variability and attempt to ensure an adequate supply and quality of water to meet year-round demand.
According to AWWA, the climate change compendium explains the impact climate change will have on urban water and wastewater utilities, as well as water resource management.
