Pemex Petroleum

Challenge
Pemex, one of the largest petroleum companies in the world and the largest company in Mexico, had been using a system to access standards that required a significant amount of maintenance and was difficult to use. In order to get to the information they needed, technicians and engineers at the Exploration and Production Division were required to access numerous paper and electronic sources. In order to improve the process, saving both time and money, the company needed an online library and retrieval system.

Solution
The concept called for an easy-to-use online system that would consolidate all of the required specification information and allow access by the companies' technicians and engineers, 365 days a year, at all the necessary locations. In order to help achieve this goal, IHS worked on implementing a proprietary graphical interface for the online system, designed by Pemex that assists users in locating the exact specifications and standards required for a given task. Additionally, an administration module was developed to facilitate the evolution capacity, a critical function of the system.

Value Created
The benefits of the new system have been enormous, as the company has noticed cost savings in procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance while having access to more complete and updated information.
