Terumo Cardiovascular Systems

Challenge
Terumo Cardiovascular Systems, a leading manufacturer of specialized medical devices, is frequently called upon to recondition components that are up to thirty-years old. This process usually involves the replacement of parts that contain components that have become obsolete. In order to locate components or functional replacements, the companies' engineers were required to wait up to four hours as they called individual manufacturers and distributors.

Solution
Terumo then discovered CatalogXpress, from IHS Engineering, an online database designed to help engineers and purchasing professionals quickly locate electronic components. CatalogXpress does charge for catalog insertion and includes information on the parts produced by thousands of the world's top manufacturers. The engineers at Terumo are able to full-text search by keyword or manufacturers name from a proprietary 840,000-term technical thesaurus.

Value Created
The time required to source components for perfusion systems was reduced from four hours to a matter of minutes.
