TACTRAC™ COMET™

IHS TACTRAC™ COMET™ (Component Obsolescence Management and Engineering Tool) is the web-based hosted bill of material (BOM) obsolescence management solution.

Utilizing feedback from our extensive and varied TACTRAC™ oms™ customer base, TACTRAC COMET was designed with a state-of-the-art, technically sophisticated, and intuitive user interface with the features and functionality desired by today’s component engineers and obsolescence professionals.

With TACTRAC COMET, analyzing BOM obsolescence impacts and selecting replacement parts has never been easier or more convenient. Users import their BOMs, and then TACTRAC COMET employs proprietary algorithms to match part numbers and manufacturers against IHS’s industry-leading TACTRAC™ reference component database. The IHS TACTRAC database contains nearly a million semiconductor devices (integrated circuits, diodes and transistors) from more than 250 worldwide manufacturers with availability data that is updated daily.

TACTRAC COMET also automatically displays suggested possible matches for those part numbers and/or manufacturers that did not find an initial match, providing a simple and unique method to quickly correct and update BOMs.

Provided for each matched manufacturer part number is current manufacturer availability, suggested Form-Fit-Function (FFF) alternate part numbers, and IHS’s industry-leading life cycle modeling and part availability predictive data.

BOM parts are categorized either by the imported approved manufacturer(s) or by a preferred manufacturer availability status. Users can monitor their BOM’s manufacturer availability status changes by utilizing built-in alert reporting functions, and receive TACTRAC COMET generated e-mail BOM impact alert notifications.

Included with the TACTRAC COMET subscription is access to the TACTRAC™ Component Look-Up™ <> database part search and part selection utility, which also provides access to manufacturer web sites and data sheets.

Key Features:

  • Web based, state-of-the-art, technically sophisticated and intuitive user interface
  • Import, cleanse, and monitor hierarchical BOMs or part list files
  • Allows for the use of user defined .xls, .txt, or csv formatted import files
  • Provides automatic e-mail notifications for manufacturer status changes including last time buy (LTB) announcements
  • Advanced data export capabilities provides for virtually unlimited report formatting including query functions
  • Identify common part usage across all of your imported BOMs

With TACTRAC COMET you get access to the most current and comprehensive manufacturer part availability database with predictive data to help you avoid costly redesigns, product shortages, and manufacturing line shutdowns increasing productivity while reducing costs.

Value Proposition

  • Shorten product design cycles by selecting the right parts from the right manufacturers
  • Reduce manufacturing delays caused by part shortages through timely notification of part availability issues
  • Improve product life cycles through proactive life time buy notifications
  • Increase cost savings by making informed product redesign decisions
