How Reference Linking Solutions Works

  1. The IHS Reference Linking Solution allows you to link from a variety of applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PDF, HTML), document management systems (e.g. PLM, PDM, EMS, etc.), and design tools.
  2. Links are embedded in your data that contain an IHS Link URL, Document Identification, and your Company Identification/Code.
  3. All the user needs to do is click on the reference link, and they will automatically be authenticated and directed to the correct document.

How are links to references created?

The Reference Linking Maintenance Tool is a product that provides an account administrator the ability to create, modify, and remove links as necessary. This Tool also allows users the ability to locate Reference Names and their associated links for embedding in their own documents.

Based on customer needs, it is possible for IHS to create the links and provide them to the customer, or to create the links and embed them in the customer's documents.
