1. Search Screen

In this example we will look for specifications on time indicators. To start, we typed the words in the Text field.

Note: Specs & Standards allows you to search by Text and/or Document Number. You can also use the Browse/Refine Search drop-down list to search by: Organization , Status, Segment, Document Type, Date, ICS Code, FSC Code, and Personal Document Lists.

An "and" is assumed between search terms, so we will only retrieve documents containing both words.

Since we did not check the Include Doc Text box, Specs & Standards will only search titles and abstracts. This will help narrow the search to documents that really pertain to this subject, and will not find those that merely contain these words anywhere in the text.

Common word variations, such as plurals and words ending in ing and ed are automatically retrieved, so we will find documents containing indicator and indicators.

Notice the in front of the search fields. These Help icons appear throughout the Specs & Standards service. Hover your mouse over these icons for search tips and other information.

With one click of the Search button, Specs & Standards looks for the words in the entire database of over 568,000 industry standards and 350,000 active and historical U.S. Military/Federal documents.
