1. IHS GROUP CEO TELLS "THE WALL STREET TRANSCRIPT" THE VISION OF IHS AND MORE . . .

Bob Carpenter, IHS Group CEO gave an insightful interview to the Wall Street Transcript regarding IHS customer relationship focus and goals, IHS position in the marketplace and the outlook for the future.

Mr. Carpenter also outlines the key to IHS continuing success and customer satisfaction: "We focus on being a critical process partner in industries such as aviation and aerospace, automotive, construction, electronics, telecommunications, government and military, and oil and gas. By using our information, our software and our services, we help to revolutionize our customers' processes, be it design process, procurement process, or in the case of oil and gas, the exploration and production processes."

2. DNV OFFSHORE RULES & STANDARDS NOW AVAILABLE

DNV (Det Norske Veritas) Offshore Rules and Standards is the latest in the most comprehensive collection of standards available online for the petroleum industry. This critical data provides technical requirements and acceptance criteria for general application by the offshore industry. Standards cover Quality & Safety, Materials, Structural Design & Construction, Systems, and Pipelines & Risers.

3. SURVEY AIMS TO IMPROVE STANDARDS DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT

Compliance to voluntary standards is expensive. There are hundreds of documents to find, read, interpret, update, and maintain. How do you do it? How do you keep everything straight? This survey will help IHS to help you with standards document management.

4. DOES BRUSSELS SET THE AGENDA FOR AMERICAN FARMERS AND MANUFACTURERS?

The answer is YES. Although America may take the lead in setting foreign policy that Europe follows, it is the European Union or more specifically, Brussels, that sets the policy/regulations for chemicals and chemically treated items that are used in the production and modification of foods that are sold globally.

There is currently a proposal on the table to create a new system to govern existing chemicals entering the E.U, called REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) If passed, eventually all chemical producers, manufacturers and farmers will have to comply if they want to sell their products abroad. The regulation of global trade is a major concern to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation, especially in light of the fact that 80% of international trade is affected by standards and regulations that embody standards.

The IHS EUROFILE - European Legislation and Standards Service includes "New Approach" directives that specify essential legal requirements for products.

5. COMING SOON - NEW ENHANCEMENTS FOR CAPS Expert™!

Engineers asked for enhancements to CAPS Expert that make searching and finding replacements easier -- the new version of CAPS Expert delivers. Buyers also asked for the capability to search documents based on generic component information or broad commodity class for a specific manufacturer -- CAPS Expert delivers this too.

NEW CATEGORY HIERARCHY -- lets users see all device types available on one page in an easy-to-navigate display.

NEW DOCUMENT SEARCH -- finds documents (datasheets, end-of-life notices, product change notices, etc.) by manufacturer name or keyword first, and then links to the parts that pertain to the document.

IMPROVED PARAMETRIC SEARCH -- alphabetized list of all device categories. Parameters are limited in the capture set for a more unified flat file format. New mathematical operators allow ranges of parametric values.

NEW "QUERY-BY-EXAMPLE" SEARCH -- allows greater user control in finding alternate parts. Users can modify, add to, or delete reference parametric values for "what if" scenario searches from a known part.

NEW AUTOMATED "SIMILAR REPLACEMENTS" SEARCH -- "one-click" replacements search capability for the more specialized ("non-jellybean") semi-conductor devices that would otherwise not have replacements based on the most stringent "fit, form, and function" replacement criteria.

6. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE SAYS STANDARDS HELP PROTECT NATIONAL SECURITY

With so many varied types of military technology, equipment and level of soldier/response training (which is often indigenous) - how can all of these countries of the world launch a globally sustainable mutual defense or homeland emergency response?

Interoperability. It is the key to achieving global mutual defense and homeland security that bring together local, state and federal emergency agencies to protect national security. To achieve interoperability, standardization is required. The DOD recognizes the crucial role that standards play in facilitating interoperability for the nation's armed forces and honors individuals for their standards contributions through the Defense Standardization Program (DSP).

IHS offers DOD Adopted Standards in a variety of formats to match your needs and budget.
